Italy Northern, Piedmont, Italy
Ca del Baio Barbaresco Asili 2005 - In the pantheon of great, Nebbiolo-based Piedmont wines, Barbaresco is often considered the more elegant and feminine "queen" to Barolo's rugged and muscular "king". Showing both charm and depth, Ca' Del Baio's example from the revered "cru" vineyard Asili has the added advantage of a few years of aging under her belt (or bodice?). Warming spiced cherry notes and herbal lift come together in the generous and open texture. Fine tannins and varietal acid zip let you know that this is serious Nebbiolo in your glass. And that my friend, is good thing! Pairing: Boschetto al Tartufo (Italian Truffle Cheese!); Think big - game meats (if you feel so inspired) will charm this wine!
