New Zealand, Marlborough, New Zealand
Omaka Springs Sauvignon Blanc 2011 If you taste wine professionally (as we do) or even if you're a serious wine devotee (as you may be) you can easily get the impression that Marlborough, New Zealand is a never ending expanse of Sauvignon Blanc vines. How else could so many SB's emanate from such a specific locale? Happily a great majority of them are solid examples of their type. Our Wine of the Month program is not about solid examples however. This precise and vibrant white from Omaka Springs soars above the din. Notes of lime, freshly mown grass, gooseberry and clean stones after a rain shower all fall into an exacting order. The real key is the pleasantly oily texture which is swept aside by cleansing acid on the finish. Shrimp, scallop and swordfish dishes will sing next to this distinctive wine. It would also work wonders with a batch of appetizers to kick off a holiday party. Cheers!
